I ask because there is one application whose icon I cannot get to appear on the desktop of my hard disk; it always shows up generic. I know it has real icons -- I found them with ResEdit. I've tried pasting the BNDL, FREF and ICN# resources from the application into the desktop, then turning off the Inited flag; using PurgeIcons; and rebuilding the desktop file completely with reboot-option-twaddle-etc. If I knew more about what what BNDL and FREF tell the Finder about the APPL's ICN#, I would be more than happy to spruce things up myself in ResEdit. (Amazingly useful program. Just the other day I deciphered the hex in Crystal Raider's high-score list resource.) Ironically, the only icon PurgeIcons changed from "generic" to "real" was its own. If I thought removing and replacing the program would do it, I would. I'm trying to avoid this, however, since I just reformatted the disk and don't want to segment it again.
