Intended functions is correct. Although the keys exist, most programs do not support them (yet). If you want to use them for their intended purposes you can either wait for updated versions of the software or you can get a copy of QuickKeys from CE Software. QuickKeys lets you translate any key on the extended keyboard to any other key, to any menu item, to scroll bar mousing, to mouse clicks or any sequence of the above. I've been using it on my Mac II and have had no problems with it. CE Software advertises in most of the Mac mags and they have an 800 number as well. There is a demo version floating around as well.
