Unfortunate indeed, as you can't use a separate file system partition either. I had wanted to use a different partition for comp, but even though most cross-posting is within single major group (a root group?), apparently the news software builds a temporary file and then hard links to all the target newsgroups. So all newsgroups must reside on the same mounted partition.
