I was using the VAX11/750 4.2 BSD 'vi' Version 3.7, 6/10/83..... :-) 

Again, the best thing to do is to *not* alter anything.  Just
create the directories necessary and run 'sh nvi.shar'.  The
same is true for 'lvi.shar' too.  I posted 'lvi' a few days after
posting 'nvi'.  (Serious) comments regarding these packages
are most welcome.
