As I mentioned, the tape drive itself has recently been upgraded > from a TU81 to a TU81+. We have some Cipher 990 tape drives interfaced through Emulex TC13 controllers emulating a TS11. I have seen the same problem a few times when we were running VMS V4.5 or V4.6 on a Vax 8300. I did not further investigate the problem, since I saw the problem only a few times and only for software distribution kits from Digital. F.
