  We run XMODEM here, under VMS 4.6 - through DHV-11s and a Gandalf PACX. No
problem. I'm not sure which version of XMODEM it is, but it's fairly recent.
Got it from DECUS, I think. If you're stuck, I guess I could dig up the source
and VMS_SHAR it...
