You will need some sort of layer there to catch the mail when the node is not there. I have been using the Software Tools Mail System to do that at my site. There is also PMDF that does essentially the same thing. Both packages allow you to queue up messages for delivery. If the node is not available at the time, it will try again later. A REPLY/DISABLE usually will take care of it. Also you cannot be running anything else, no subprocesses.
