In a word, Epson was recommended hands down as always dependable. Unfortunately, they don't make too many 24-pin models (2 I think) that were reasonably priced. The NEC P6 got high marks too. I happen to have had the opportunity to have used one and I spoke to people who have P6's and P7's. They all concur that it's a very good printer. If I were asked the question I posted, I would have to recommend Epson or NEC - Epson has the reputation, defacto-standard, and model choices, while NEC has 24 pin models, Epson LQ emulation and a similar price (as the Epsons). Which one did I buy? I hunted for the best price and ordered the NEC P6 from Warehouse Data Products in Arizona (800-421-3135). I also ordered the bi-directional tractor feed. Their prices were: NEC P6 Parallel Printer $419.00 Bi-directional Tractor Feed 105.00 The next best price on the printer I found was $425 from Telemart and Silicon Specialities. (Interestingly, their price for the tractor feed was $99; I couldn't make any deals with Warehouse Data Products to save 6 bucks. :-). Thanks again for the recommendations. Regards- -Mark H. Granoff
