So why not simply switch their positions along with the cable? You assumption of jumpers needing to be changed is/was correct. But since your drives have the jumpers at a different place, its safe to bet they are from 2 different companies and that the jumper settings would be different. On the lighter side: Whats wrong with 0 on the right and 1 on the left? Its been that way ever since the 4040 drives.
