Unless the sector you lost was on one of the directory tracks, as then you were totally screwed because there was no way to tell which blocks belonged to which file. I seem to remember writing a "salvage" program that would allow me to try to visually match the text at the end of a block with that of various potential 'next blocks'. GAK. No thanks.
