Raymond,
You could have StuffIt look for the first colon after the line that
starts with :

(This file must be converted with BinHex 4.0)

:THISISABINHEXEDFILEWITHALLSORTSOFUNREADABLESTUFF....

This way you are always sure you start at the beginning of the .hqx 
file.
