I'm looking for a digital halftone program, one that takes a grey-scale
image and yields a single-plane bitmap.  Naturally, I prefer something
inexpensive or in the public domain.  Application is for spectrograms,
among other things.  I would appreciate pointers to any such programs,
or to published algorithms (yes, I've seen the latest IEEE Proceedings). 
I'll summarize, if appropriate.  Thanks in advance.
