     Declaration of "pure functions" doesn't really seem to be in keeping
with the spirit of C.  This doesn't mean that I don't like the idea, though.
I put it in a dialect of Pascal in 1982, when I was working on program
verification.  But the concept is perhaps too abstract for C.  It would
fit better in Modula II, a more tightly constraining language.
