				Background

Last fall a set of nine newsgroups ("usrgroup.*") were set up for
discussion with and announcements from the subcommittees of the
/usr/group Technical Committee.

I have suggested that it might be even better to create a single,
conventional newsgroup ("comp.org.usrgroup") with expanded scope,
and the Technical Committee has agreed.

Since comp.org.usrgroup would be a part of the standard news hierarchy,
I must follow the guidelines and call for votes.  To create the newsgroup,
I must be *mailed* 100 more YES votes than NO within a thirty day period.


			Why "comp.org.usrgroup"?

The proposed (unmoderated) newsgroup may be used for such things as:
- announcements from the /usr/group office,
- communications from and discussions with the Technical Working Groups,
- online publication of newsletters of regional /usr/group affiliates,
  (and even non-affiliated UNIX user groups :-)
- and generally, discussion of /usr/group programs and activities.

The new group, in the standard distribution, should reach more sites.  Readers
are more likely to subscribe to a single, expanded group than to 9 narrow
groups.  A single group should be enough for the anticipated message traffic.


			What YOU should do:

Vote YES

  If you agree that comp.org.usrgroup should be created, please MAIL your yes
  vote directly to peter@ontmoh.  Don't post it -- posted votes don't count.

  [If you don't care, but support the reduction by 8 newsgroups resulting
  from the replacement of the usrgroup.all groups, you may want to vote YES.]


Vote NO

  If you oppose the creation of comp.org.usrgroup, (and favour keeping
  the nine usrgroup.* newsgroups).
