The VAX/VMS Magnetic Tape User's Guide for VAX/VMS version 3.0 (March 1982)
has the ANS label specifications in the back of the manual.  I saved this
manual instead of throwing it out.

I just read this morning that the release notes for v4.0 and v4.1 may
also contain information that is not documented...

I guess I am suggesting to look over the documentation you intent to throw
out.
