The mail-order prices that I have seen around are around $550 for the former and $800-$900 for the latter. I used to have a Sider ][ (10 meg) a year or two ago, and they simply made Prodos into two partitions that were adjustable (/HARD1 and /HARD2). I expect that they use a similar scheme for their large capacity drives, thus avoiding the problem of the Prodos 32 Meg limit. I do not know what the access times on these drives are; that seems to be a relatively unimportant thing in the world of Apple II hard disks (not unimportant to me, though). However, if I have my facts straight, these drives are NOT SCSI. I believe that CMS makes SCSI drives for the II, and that they come in a wide variety of sizes (some larger than the Siders). However, I believe that they are also more expensive. I have requested user service info from most of the vendors, but someone has definitely NOT gotten on the ball; I have heard nary a word. In fact, a representative from First Class Peripherals actually called me at home to see what information I was looking for. I told her that I wanted to see specfications on the full range of drives they manufacture. It has been about three weeks since that time, and no news at all. -Russell Buyse.
