Lightspeed Pascal is sensitive to heap blockages; one cause of heap blockage
is a Desk Accessory that leaves garbag behind after it's closed. From
what you describe,DiskTop does this. The Control Panel under System 4.1
did it as well.

I suspect that the message isn't "not enough memory" but a message that 
something's blocking memory.
