I did a series of timings on a color version of our flight simulator, which does a lot of color polygon fills and CopyBits calls. I found an about 50% improvement in the CopyBits calls and smaller gains on the poly fills and line drawing, in both 4 bit and 8 bit color. Overall frame rate improvement was about 25%, a little better in the 8 bit mode. The 8 bit mode was still significantly slower than 4 bit. I haven't done any timings in 2 bit or black and white yet.
