M. Zyda, Naval Postgraduate School, informs me that it's just a software issue on the IRIS 3020. (You just "PROM" boot up using the TCP/IP kernal instead on the XNS kernal). Both kernals are already installed on the IRIS. Further investigation shows that any potential hardware upgrades are for the mainframe computer which will interface with the IRIS.
