The project group I'm in is trying to bypass the IP layer on a Sun-2, but we don't want to hack the kernel (not to mention that our system administrator wouldn't be too happy about that). The manual says that with the proper privileges, one can talk directly to the IP layer, but we haven't been able to get any info on whether sockets allow you to go directly to the ethernet layer.
