We're getting a little off the subject, here, but don't forget that there are highly toxic materials in solar cells, too. Solar-power technology hasn't advanced much in the last ten years, and doesn't really promise to advance much in the next ten years - if it becomes "more economical" it is only because other sources are becoming "less economical."
