Message-ID: <3978@ihlpf.ATT.COM> Date: 11 Mar 88 21:48:31 GMT Organization: AT&T Bell Laboratories - Naperville, Illinois Lines: 19 Keywords: ingres, database Info on the advantages of the TEXT data type in Ingres ------------------------------------------------------ Does anyone know the advantages of using the text data type instead of the character data type? As far as storage space is concerned, each text field takes an additional 2 bytes over an identical character field. Tests run with text and character fields seem to indicate that retrieves are, in general, faster with a character field than with a text field. Of course, text fields are useful when comparing strings, since blanks are not ignored, and also for defining character fields that are greater than 255 characters.
