For instance, in my copy of the ALGOL 68 report, you can find the lines: ISBN 3-540-07545-3 Springer-Verlag Berlin * Heidelberg * New York ISBN 0-387-07545-3 Springer-Verlag New York * Heidelberg * Berlin I.e. the first one was printed in Germany, the second one in the U.S. Note that only the publisher parts of the numbers differ.
