The one I got at work was much later - more like Jan of 87 neither one has half-brite. I wouldn't consider either one 'early', the Amiga's introduction was September of 85. It may be that I got unlucky, I doubt it. Given my experience I think you are taking a big chance considering half-brite 'standard' unless someone provides some hard figures instead of speculation.
