 Try using a 7-wire RS-232 cable between your modem and the computer serial
 port. Serial port pin 22 ( RI ) is logically shared with parallel port pin
 13 ( PSEL ). Opening the line to pin 22 in your current rs-232 cable should
 do the trick too.
