One year ago I put in a NEC V30. Since then I've run all kinds of software with NO PROBLEMS. Tonight I went through the exercise of backing up a 20 MB hard disk to 360k floppies, and upgrading from MS-DOS 2.11 to PC-DOS 3.3. I did this to take advantage of supposeedly more efficient 3.3, and to have 3.3 support for 720KB 3.5" drive which I am installing next week. (I got it free! No -- I would not purchase one of these alien things.) Well, guess what? My machine won't boot from the hard disk. I can boot from DOS 3.3 in drive A, and everything works fine. The hard disk is all there -- and I reloaded all my software and tested everything with NO PROBLEMS. But, if I try to boot from the hard disk, it just hangs. I never get anything. Actually, I had a couple of other peculiarities: 1) WHen I tried to run PC 3.3 basica, I got a message telling me to load Compaq MS-DOS diskette in drive A or B. Bizarre! That means the EPROM is intercepting BASICA invocations. 2) Machine now boots in slow (4.77 red light mode) instead of 7.14. So, ANY SUGGESTIONS?
