The ARC source I have uses a Lempel-Ziv routine straight from compress.c in
the standard usenet distribution, with a comment to the effect that the ARC
implementor, Thom Henderson, didn't really understand it.  I did find it
amusing to see Thom's copyright message only a dozen lines above that
confession...  :-)  I did not find it amusing to see that Thom had removed
the compress.c author names  :-(
