If you can at all afford it (e.g. consider taking public transportation for 6 months) buy a bigger disk. On a Mac II, a 40Mb disk only holds ~160 8-bit screen pictures, for instance. When you buy the next larger disk, you usually get 50-100% more storage, and a 33% increase in speed. All for about 20-30% more money. The reason for this is the cost of the controller is practically constant. On a $500 20Mb disk, half the money is for the SCSI controller, and half is for the disk. On a $1000 disk, 25% of the money is for the controller, 75% is for the disk.
