Since I never recieved any responses about this question,
I'd thought I'd try again, since I have come up with a
solution - although it is not an optimal one.

Is there any "event driven" way to detect when a disk
has been ejected.  Right now I have to continually tranverse
throught he drive queue and see if it is different that the
last time a check the drive queue.  This is rather a waste
of time, and I'm hoping there is a better way to do this
rather other than a polling method
