You're absolutely right. I am really upset with Amiga for copying this design flaw in the Mac, and for Apple for making it appear desirable. However, it's still better than the Mac menu bar because you don't have to give up screen real-estate for a menu bar that's usually not needed. So, it's only a slight advantage (which is, as you've pointed out above, all that I said it was). Real pop-up menus would be much more desirable. It's on my list of projects.
