I'm looking for a debug monitor with download capability that can be put in a ROM, so I have something with which I can cold-start the machine and load other programs prepared elsewhere. The Signetics M68070 is a CMOS microcontroller instruction-compatible with the M68010. In addition to the usual 68010 features, it also has an on-chip UART, timer channels, I2L bus interface, MMU (!) and other useful goodies needed in control applications. The chip was developed for the Phillips interactive laser-disk player, but is available from Signetics for other purposes. Unfortunately, Signetics has no support software available for the part. But since it is a M68010, if something can be found that has enough smarts to talk to the UART, we should be able to cross-compile for it and download if we can find a debugger /downloader to get us started. It's a real part, by the way; we have one. John Nagle
