What I want is a drive that can run at 125 ips start/stop or faster, 1600/6250bpi, and an adjustable interface transfer rate with a Pertec interface. It would also be nice if the drive had a lot of on board memory (like 1 Meg). I currently have a streaming tape drive (Cipher M990) and I am having trouble keeping it in streaming mode. It goes into washing machine mode when I do dumps. I have been tempted to toss a load of cloths in it so I can get my wash done and do backups at the same time :-). The problem isn't really the drive, it is the controller but that is another story. If you have any recommendations for a good start/stop tape drive please drop me a note at the address below. If there is interest I will post a summary. Thanks, - Jim Internet: james@csd4.milw.wisc.edu Uucp: ihnp4!uwmcsd1!james Csnet: james@uwm Phone: +1 (414) 229-6431
