Using the IP options, and various ICMP functions, it could be possible to figure out: > "...link quality, throughput, packet loss rate, and delays..." One can get a glimmer about the above now, cause 'some' gateways and hosts provide 'some' of the features, that work 'some' of the time. So, before you/we go off an' invent another protocol which any number of universities will jump on as a weekend project, and then any number of vendors will grab at sometime in its life cycle and purvey to the public as there own with out support, ...
