My old 1200 baud modem (the one that wouldn't talk X-modem to GEnie) finally died completely a few weeks ago, refusing to carrier detect. I called MacConnection at 09:30 on a Thursday to order a Practical Peripherals 2400 unit. The salesperson was extremely friendly and helpful, reminding me that it was an external modem and as such came less cables and software (which I knew). I gave my VISA number and asked when I could expect delivery, and she said, "Tomorrow." For the normal $3.00 shipping I was expecting this to mean the late afternoon UPS run, so imagine my surprise when an Airborne courier rings my bell at 10 the next morning! Delivery time 24 hours, 30 minutes, and I didn't even ask for a rush! I have been really happy with the modem, and I unhesitatingly recommended it. Since there have been a few recent requests for modem info I'll post a description of the unit under separate cover. Only letdown: They now answer the phone with "MacConnection and PC connection, may I help you?" !! I'm sure it's good for their business, but c'mon -- joining forces with the [shudder] Big Blue Enemy! (-: Still, the number says it: (800) MAC & LISA. Disclaimer: I bet they're great to work for, but I'm not someone who does -- I just buy their goodies.
