That's because the ShutDownSound INIT can only use SoundWave files, NOT
SoundCap files or any other Sound Files (as you know, it can't read in snd
resources).

About three weeks ago, I mailed in a wonderful CDEV called SoundMaster to
comp.binaries.mac.  It's a shareware CDEV that lets you set startup,
shutdown, restart, beep, eject disk, insert disk, bad disk and keyclick
sounds to any Sound file you can think of -- at any of the four sampling
speeds.  Won't work on compressed SoundCap files (those are rare these days)
or snd resources.  I'm in love with it, because it lets me use lower
sampling speeds for Startup sounds, etc.  Also, it allows for individual
volume settings for *each* sound!  And you can test them in the cdev to make
sure you have the right speed.  Should be coming along soon... worth every
penny of the $10 shareware fee I paid.

My local MUG stores all their sounds in SoundWave format.  They figure (I
think correctly) that it's a cinch to convert Sound files to snd, rather
than visa-versa (even though Sound Leech has made this much easier).
