That is, I need a precise timing technique for MIDI playback and recording. Using the Vertical Retrace Manager seems to be the obvious choice but I don't think an interrupt every 1/60 of a second is fast enough for this application. Taking over the timer used for sound seems to be another choice. I think it interrupts every horizontal retrace. Unfortunately, documentation in Inside Mac is pretty sparse in this area.
