I may have a solution.  I have successfuly changed the "thickness"
of lines in Pic using the ".ps" pointsize command in
straight ditroff.  As an example, say your default pointsize
is 10.  Then the following pic input will draw a default
pointsize line and then a line of pointsize 20:

	.PS
	line 0,1 to 1,1
	.ps 20
	line 0,2 to 1,2
	.PE
