The title is something like "programming with windows" .............. There is a book by that name for MS Windows (Microsoft/IBM PC). (maybe that says "MS Windows"). It has nothing whatsoever to do with X-windows. It might even be harmful to use that book when programming with X-windows, because MS-Windows is truly brain-damaged (well, a PC doesn't have much of a brain anyway :-) ), and any preconceptions/habits learned from MS-Windows programming might result in truly bad user interface design on X-windows.... --scu
