Paraphrasing slightly to fit the current topic, I might also put it: "Science is the religion that works." ... In the sense that religion often describes "miracles," but these always seem to be elsewhere when the cameras are around. Science's magic carpets fly us around the world, to the depths of the sea, and to the veritable heavens. Admittedly, science hasn't made as much progress in the social and psychological arena, but some problems are simply harder and take longer -- and we're all so impatient.
