I'm posting this since it may be of interest to others and I would be
interested to see peoples reaction to the book.

Take a look at Sherry Turkle's _The_Second__Self:_Computers
and_the_Human_Spirit.  (1984, Simon & Schuster).  She talks about a number
of different "styles" of interaction with computers.  I have seen references
to more recent publications by this author, but I don't recall the references.
