   BTW: Thinwire didn't exist at the time of the original Ethernet
   standards.  It was added in the IEEE under the name of 10BASE2.

Nope.  CheaperNet was invented by 3COM.  Traditional Ethernet HW was
much too expensive for connecting PCs.  The IEEE included it as an
option in 802.3.
