They can be had for ~ $10 each. I passed on getting a set of Digital 9600's and Digital 56Kb's last time; another auction is coming and more 9600's are coming up. From what I can tell they [the 9600's] have an RS-232 jack and a standard 4-wire telephone connection output. They appear to be around 4 years old. Now it's obvious that they don't have any dialer capability; could one do a manual dial and manually connect two of them together, or is it hopeless without a much higher grade leased line (Telebits, these ain't)? Given the essentially non-existent cost, are low-grade leased lines mega-expensive? In other words, should I waste $20 on a couple of these, or are they just fancy paperweights at this stage?
