However, I did check with those who should know and got responses from reputable FSF folks that all the Gosling code has long since been removed. (Their notes were private mail, so I won't post them.) (I can't recall another recent posting for which I've been so careful to get my facts straight first :-) Others have pointed out that the code still looks pretty similar.
