Message-ID: <2528@phoenix.Princeton.EDU> Date: 15 Apr 88 04:36:22 GMT Reply-To: svpillay@phoenix.Princeton.EDU (Kanthan Pillay) Organization: The Institution for the Temporarily Intelligent Lines: 23 Keywords: X-windows, Macintosh I have recently begun using a Sun 3 running X-Windows and have liked some of the bitmapped background screens that came with the package. I also use a Mac II and would like to move copies of these bitmap files to the Mac in a Macintosh-readable format (preferably PICT since that wouldn't limit me to the single page MacPaint format, but I'll take that too if I can get it). All of this is new territory to me, so I may have some of the facts slightly messed up. Here's what I got: * The X-Windows bitmaps are in a format called "xbm". * Most of these originated in a somewhat generic format called "pbm" (as in "portable bitmap"). * We already have working copies of programs that will read a MacPaint file as input and convert these to pbm, and read pbm and convert these to xbm. * We can convert from xbm to pbm, but the buck stops there. There is no pbm to MacPaint conversion facility. Any ideas? Please email responses. I will post them if there is sufficient interest. Kanthan. -- Do I really need a signature?
