I have a Supra 30Meg drive attached to my dusty old '1000. It makes that same buzz-saw noise sometimes when the metal leg of my chair knocks against the metal filing cabinet supporting my table. I think I can rule out vibration, because I tried putting the drive on a foam pad on a separate, very heavy, very massive table about a foot away. Plus, the floor is a concrete slab. The drive still made the noise. It doesn't seem to matter how hard or soft the impact is. Does anybody have a clue about what else could cause this? By the way -- the drive is manufactured by Miniscribe. I don't know the exact model number -- the sticker is on the bottom of the case, and I don't really want to flip the drive over while it's running :) Please e-mail replies to the address above, unless you think somebody else cares. ----- Disclaimer: My ideas don't represent anybody.
