I think the Japanese *DO* have a secret weapon. It is called "hard work". It is backed up by a strong cultural appreciation of education. When I was in college, I was awed by the dedication of the Japanese students. Now I am awed by their success in overtaking us in the high-tech industries. The U.S. of A. has indeed an enviable array of resources, not the least of which is our people. If we can just get our people, especially our young people, re-oriented toward the importance of putting their collective noses to the grindstone, or whatever idiom you want to use, then we can once again share in this "secret weapon". If we can learn to respect intellectual talent and achievement, instead of derogating it with terms like "nerd", then I believe we can recover our leadership position in short order. Else, ...
