Since we don't yet know how to design a good user interface, this couldn't be the only one available, but it sure would be nice if I could take a secretary who was used to running Microsoft Word on a Mac and give him a PC running Microsoft Word; if I did that today, I would also have to give him a course on using DOS. It is in the interests of the companies to protect proprietary interfaces, but is in the interest of the users to point out the extent to which such interfaces are based on public domain technology. Anyone interested in writing a "friend of the court" brief?
