The Mac sometimes gets confused and f**ks up the PRam. After resetting that things ought to come back to normal. I think the combination is option-clover-shift reboot or something like that. If that doesn't work, pry open the little battery lid on the back of the Mac, take out the battery for 10 minutes, put it back in again and try rebooting.
