The NYU Ultracomputer project is considering building a multiple
transputer system that would be used as a processor to memory
interconnection network for a shared memory MIMD computer (we have
custom VLSI switches but want to use the slower transputer based
network to gather data and consider various design choices for
"combining" requests to the same memory location).

We would appreciate any information about software development tools
that are available (we want to write C programs on a VAX, SUN 3, or IBM
RT/PC and have them compiled for the transputers).  In addition how
should we download the resulting object code?

The network would have the topology of an omega network, with each
transputer acting as a bidirectional 2 by 2 crossbar.
