This is partially due to the falling North American currencies. However, Japan happens to be tremendously efficient, and there isn't much that can be done about that. As far as "dumping" goes, friends who travel to Japan come back with techno-goods that (1) were far cheaper in Japan, (2) won't be available here for another few years. Digital tape is apparantly alive and well in Japan. think we'll see it here before 1990? Technology is alive, well and cheap.
